A workshop to present the results of the GBADs 2023 case study in Senegal was organised by the National Livestock and Veterinary Research Laboratory (LNERV) of the Senegalese Agricultural Research Institute (ISRA) on December 7 and 8, in partnership with the GBADs consortium and the Directorate of Veterinary Services (DSV) of the Ministry of Livestock and Animal Production (MEPA) of Senegal.

The project team presented the results of the analyzes carried out over the past few months:
• Socio-economic impact of animal health on the agropastoral sector of small ruminants, for all causes and for Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) more specifically.
• Ecosystem mapping of existing data on ruminant’s health and production in Senegal.

This workshop brought together around thirty participants for two days of face-to-face discussions:
• Public sector actors (DSV and DIREL).
• Researchers (ISRA, EISMV, University of Liverpool and ILRI).
• Representatives of producer organizations (RBM, DINFEL, APESS and CNMDE).
• Private sector actors (veterinarians, consultants and ODVS).
• World Organization for Animal Health.
• International Development Research Center.

The discussions were very fruitful, particularly around the data used in the economic impact model and the results presented for the appreciation of the participants. Other discussions were held around the use of the products of the GBADs approach in practice and in decision-making, as well as the improvement of animal-related data management in Senegal. Finally, the stakeholders expressed their needs and recommendations regarding actions and objectives for a possible second phase of this case study.
