The results of the Senegal case study are now available online!

The results from the Senegal case study have now been published on GBADs’ Knowledge Engine. You can access the dashboard here, or via the Analytics section of the Dashboard Landing Page here.

In this case study, we applied the GBADs approach for estimating the burden of animal diseases to small ruminants in the mixed crop-livestock sector of Senegal. This burden was estimated as the Animal Health Loss Envelope (AHLE), all causes combined and for Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) specifically. Briefly, the approach involves a Dynamic Population Model which simulates herd growth and management over a year, based on a range of input parameters. The AHLE is estimated as the difference between the gross margin of an ideal health scenario and that of the current scenario.

In our work, the all-cause AHLE was estimated at 357 billion FCFA (around US$ 600 million) for year 2022, for a small ruminant population of around 8.8 million head (mixed crop-livestock sector only).
