GBADs will use structured scoping reviews to systematically appraise evidence. GBADs reviews focus on Best Practice – using a standardised ‘inception table’, review protocol and process pipeline to prepare the search strategy, run the literature review and analyse the search results. A documented and unified review process will:

  • minimise biases introduced within the literature reviewing process
  • expediate updating of reviews as more evidence becomes available
  • facilitate making changes to the reviews e.g. the adding of extra eligibility criteria
  • provide a basis for future funding applications by providing a ‘library’ of GBADs review protocols.

The long-term aim is for GBADs estimates to include an automated ‘living’ review process.
