GBADs present at Australasian Agricultural and Resource Economics Society (AARES) Conference

During the second day of the Australasian Agricultural and Resource Economics Society (AARES) Conference, Associate Professor Dominic Smith, of the GBADs Programme Indonesian Case Study, presented his work on ‘Calculation of livestock biomass and value by province in Indonesia: Key information to support policymaking’. The following day saw Professor Jonathan Rushton, GBADs Programme Director, deliver a keynote speech. Known as the John (Jack) Crawford keynote, Professor Rushton’s keynote, titled ‘Moving away from ‘food at any cost’ to restore our food system balance’ was well received by the consortium at the AARES Conference. The abstract can be found here, the presentation allowed the Conference to explore the challenge that Jonathan mentions in the abstract ‘Food at any cost’.

After presenting the Crawford Fund keynote speaker, Professor Jonathan Rushton gave a radio interview with ‘On Country Today’ where he spoke about ‘The real ‘cost’ of food’. The interview can be sound on Soundcloud here.

The week ended with a second interview, this time on ABC Victoria about the encouragement Professor Rushton has seen in Australia around soil health. The clip can be found here from 36.20-43.55.
